"I found [the early chapters of] Thorne’s Quest to be an enjoyable read, reminiscent of Lord of Rings and other classic tales of fantasy. It has plenty of excitement, particularly in the fight scenes with the other squires, their duels and the assassins' attack, where Quint is almost killed. The author reveals just enough snippets of information in the early chapters to make you want to read on. The characters are diverse and well drawn, and the young female lead is a refreshing change.

Organisation: . . . liked the premise . . . well organised story . . . plot seems to flow nicely. . . . The reader is presented with a detailed picture of a society recovering from a long period of troubles, into which steps the lead character.

Characterization: The story is filled with some great characters. Thorne herself is very well drawn and believable. . . . The King's character is well portrayed, too, a man who can't quite believe all the fuss is for him at times. It's a great contrast in the first chapters how he behaves like a typical older brother with Thorne when they are alone, but is truly the king in front of others.

Believability and Research: I formed an excellent picture of the society and characters in my head. There is so much detail about the different races. . . . The tale told by Ennis at the celebration is wonderful. . . . If Thorne's world was a real place, the author is clearly a well traveled expert with an indepth knowledge of its varied societies and colourful cultures, along with their history. . . . I could really picture the world and its territories in my head and imagined the view from Thorne's balcony.

Topicality: the tough young girl as the heir to the throne and lead character sets this novel apart from other stories in similar genres.

Writing: The author has a fine command of the language, and the chapters I read are well-written.

“Eli Mattson”: A brilliant novel with lots of edge! . . . where the richness and depth of Tolkein meet the masterful story-telling of Rowling! The author's choice of present-tense invites the reader into an intimate circle brimming with fresh, bold characters, novel cultures, and action-filled life events. This courageous author tackles subjects from which many would run and does so skillfully and honestly. The classic theme of good versus evil is explored in a daring way, calling upon the reader to search their own values as the story unfolds. A visceral experience! This book will keep you coming back for more!

“Meg DeForest”: Exciting New Book. A wonderful addition to any fantasy library, this book takes all of the best themes of fantasy and plays with them in new and exciting ways. The author has created a wonderfully full world that is never lacking in characters, cultures or conflict. The fast paced writing is engaging and pulls the reader into the adventures of the young heroine. Thorne is surrounded by a rich supporting cast that make the Sacred City come alive.

“Mel Evanoff”: a must-read! What a great read! The Secret Heir immediately welcomes you into its wonderfully rich and enchanting world and wraps you up in delightfully real characters, fascinating places and an interesting story. The themes of the book, while not unknown to other books of the genre, are brand new again in this unique world, easily capturing the essence of the book and stealing the show without overshadowing the story itself! A good book is one that entertains and keeps you wanting more. Certainly The Secret Heir does that. But a great book leaves you thinking. Verily, I tell you: this is a great book! My advice? "Marge Jose”: A really great book! The whole world that the author has created is detailed, rich and draws you in deeper with each page. This book is a real treasure for the fantasy buff. An excellent read.

“Kaitlyn O'Clare”: An exciting read. The Secret Heir is rich and deeply layered. It explores many subjects such as adventure, feminism, cultural diversity and personal relationships. As it is told from the perspective of one person, it leaves mysteries to ponder on for a few more chapters, meanwhile it is as round and complete as the telling of one’s day. The use of the present tense took a little getting used to, but it worked. The author’s use of language is evocative and eloquent. I found it an exciting read, leaving me wanting more. I would recommend it to those seeking an experience not soon to be forgotten.

“Gerald Bab”: An amazing read! This book was one of the greatest books I have ever read, it was filled with action, humour, diversity and feminism! It was impossible to put this book down. The detail is incredible, it makes you think you are inside the book, and one gets attached to the characters quite easily. Cannot wait to read the second!
